Life happens

So much to do, so little time.  I've been hosting Golden Globe, Grammy and Super Bowl parties and they have taken up much of my time.  And though that looks like a can of Coors in my grandson's hand, it is an empty one... he was just fooling around!

And then there was Valentine's Day... I loved the tulips that my daughter brought me.

Now that's not an excuse.  I have managed to make a few more 'stars' for the Stars for a New Day quilt.

The cats are still napping in silly positions and usually on my sewing materials... as usual.

And daffodils are blooming right outside my door.  It's been a very warm winter here on the West Coast of the US in case you haven't been watching the Olympics and seen or heard about it.  So pretty!

Flying Geese border done!

I have the FG borders completed ... and sewn on to the quilt.

I had lots of help (as usual) in picking color for all those flying geese.

Which was very tiring.. so a nap was in order.

 Peek-a-boo!
I've determined while spending one solid year + working on this quilt that I don't ever want to make a Block of the Month quilt ever again.  For some reason, I just can't stand to look at a quilt on my wall for that length of time.  I have also figured out that I don't like the tedium of making lots of the same block over and over again, so no more stars will be in my future.

This picture shows only a quarter of the quilt because it is now too big for my display wall.  But as you can see, the flying geese border is done.

Now, because I hadn't completed 25 of the small stars for the final border, I am now in the process of making those so I can finish this 'baby'.

I only have 9 stars to go... then I can sew a strip to them and sew them together side by side, staggering them so that the strip is on top on one, then on the bottom of the next.  I am excited to get this last border on but because I'm so bored with making stars I only make one or two a day.  So it's not going quickly at all.

I'm thinking of making a Block of the Week quilt by Twiddletails.  I've never made a black quilt and it might be fun.  The only thing stopping me are all those pinwheels... but they are different sizes so it could be interesting.

Look! I finally made some flying geese for the BOM border.  These strips are paper-pieced ... rather boring to make.  Forty-two strips are needed and some shorter ones to add to the corners.

As usual, I have lots of help while sewing.  Jaik was willing to put his "all" into making sure I worked steady with no interruptions (in his mind).

Almost

This will be short... I accomplished absolutely nothing related to quilting today.

But, my excuse is that I did have visitors and I pulled together a quick pizza, salad and a "fruit on the bottom" kind of quick dessert for three... something I'm not particularly good at.  But it was all delicious and we had a nice conversation, too.

So it was a productive day in that way.  Tomorrow, I quilt.

Lacking in spirit

Okay, so I didn't actually work on any quilting yesterday... I will today, I'm sure.  Although I'm very tired.  Whenever I begin to read anything interesting, I continue until I'm uninterested and that makes for some late nights.  Last night I was up until 2pm and vowed that I would get back on schedule by arising by 8am.  Well, I did that but I find my eyes closing periodically.  I'll probably be napping by 2pm.

I was thrilled to get loads of Kaffe Fassett fabric that I ordered on December 27th from Quilternity.com and could hardly wait to open the package and drool over every piece.  I ordered 16 yards... a yard of each of my favorites.  I'm such a piggie but now I'm happy as a clam.

Just look at this... and no, I have no plans on what I will do with it.  I think I'll just look at it.  For now.  LOL

Quilting in a new year

Hmmm, is it twenty-ten, of two thousand ten?  I think I'll be calling it twenty-ten.  Now that that decision has been made, it's time that I got back to quilting.  I've ordered some Kaffe Fassett fabric on order and I'm looking forward to it's arrival next week.

Of course, I've still to complete the BOM quilt but I have only a couple of borders to finish and it should be done in a few weeks.  I intend to work on it diligently... I promised that on January 1st and I've only worked on it once since... but I will get to work tomorrow.  Diligently!

Happy New Year!

2010 is here!  Happy new year to us all.

I watched the Seattle Space Needle fireworks on tv tonight because I can't actually see the Needle from my porch.  And I'm listening to the noise on the street of the celebrants lighting off fireworks.  Some of the noises are very loud and my cats are wondering what all the ruckus is about.  They're handling it pretty well considering that some pretty loud booms are happening.

I took the boys to see Avatar this afternoon and they both loved it.  I didn't love it as much as they did.... lots of war-like behavior and fighting were happening and I guess I'm more of a peacenik type of person.  When I went by to drop off the kids, Abigail invited me in for a glass of bubbly so I joined them for a quick drink.  I knew Matt and Chelle who are in town for the holidays from Waterloo ON were going there with their two girls so I wanted to have a quick drink and leave to go home... but I wasn't fast enough and not only was there for Matt and Chelle's arrival but a few others as well.  Then Liza and Laura walked in to say 'happy new year'.  It was almost 6:30pm before I got out of there a little the worse for wear (and drink).

The girls were going to the casino to dance the new year in but it was full so they called me about 9:30pm to ask if I would come and pick them up since they were standing in a long line.  Just as I was about to leave, the phone rang again and a kind policeman had offered them a ride home.  Just as well.  Madeleine is over in Seattle celebrating.

Have done very little quilting over the past couple of weeks what with Christmas shopping and decorating going on.  But my tree is undecorated now and I'll get back to business in a day or so.  After the Pasadena Rose Parade tomorrow morning.!!!!
